Awareness Days – February 2023

Jan 30, 2023

Celebrating relevant social media awareness days and using respective hashtags give you and your brand an opportunity to engage with your social media audience.

February marks Valentine’s Day, one of the most talked about dates in the calendar. Lots of brands will be offering a whole host of Valentine’s Day specials, from exclusive deals, discounts, competitions, and more. This can create a lot of noise and with many larger brands aligning themselves with Valentine’s Day, it can make it difficult for smaller brands to be heard.

Valentine’s Day isn’t the only thing happening in February. Far from it! There are many other significant events that might present a better opportunity for you to connect with your audience, and they might align better with your audience. So what else could you focus your efforts on?

Here are some additional Awareness Days for February 2023

Singles Awareness Day

Single Awareness Day is a holiday celebrated on February 15, that recognizes and celebrates the status of being single. It is a day for single people to embrace their individuality, enjoy their freedom, and appreciate the positive aspects of being single. Some people view it as an opportunity to pamper themselves or to spend time with friends, while others use it to reflect on their relationship goals.

Single Awareness Day could be a great time to announce an offer or run a competition if you work for a beautician, salon, or spa.

Sporting Events

There’s rarely a break in the sporting calendar, so most months there is a lot to talk about. February is typically one of the busier months of the year.

The Six Nations kick’s off on 4 February and ends on 18 March. 2023 This is the 116 edition of the annual international rugby union competition involving England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales. The Six Nations is one of the most prestigious and competitive rugby tournaments in the world and attracts large audiences both in the stadiums and on television, perfect if you’re a pub or bar with a large TV!

A little more niche for the UK audience, but gaining popularity fast, is the Superbowl. Superbowl LVII (57) will decide the champion for the 2022 American Football (NFL) season. This year’s Superbowl teams are the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Superbowl will dominate a lot discussion in the days before and afterwards, and not just the football. There is the half-time show and the commercials which are some of the most expensive and talked about pieces of advertising.

If you’re in marketing, advertising or entertainment then Superbowl LVII is certainly something your peers will be discussing!

Closer to home, at Wembley Stadium to be precise, the Carabao Cup Final will be taking place on Sunday 26 February. The final will be between the winners of Southampton v Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest v Manchester United.

Food

There are a number of food-related awareness days taking place in February.

The most significant to many is Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake Day. Shrove Tuesday is the day before the first day of Lent in the Christian calendar, a period of fasting, repentance, and spiritual discipline in the Christian religion, lasting for 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday. During Lent, many people choose to give up certain luxuries as a form of sacrifice and focus on prayer and reflection.

This year, Shrove Tuesday will be celebrated on 21 February.

This month also marks British Yorkshire Pudding Day on Sunday 6 February and National Margarita Day on 22 February. So if these items are on the menu at your pub, bar, restaurant, or hotel, then make sure these dates are in your content calendar so you can share mouth-watering content with your audience!

Global Events

The Grammy Awards are the most prestigious awards in the music industry. The awards recognise outstanding achievements in various categories of music, including pop, rock, hip-hop, classical, and country. This year’s ceremony will be taking place on Sunday 6 February and will dominate discussions on social media for a few days, covering not just the music, but everything relating to the ceremony including the star’s fashion choices, gossip, controversy, and everything said in the speeches.

Other Awareness Days

There are also a number of more serious which aim to raise awareness of serious issues, like Children’s Mental Health Week. Children’s Mental Health Week is an annual event in the United Kingdom that takes place during the first full week of February. The week is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of children’s mental health and well-being, and to promote the resources and support available for children and families. During the week, various events, activities, and initiatives are held to encourage people to talk about mental health and support children who are struggling with mental health challenges. The event is organized by the Children’s Mental Health Charity, Place2Be.

If you work in childcare or education then this presents a great time to join the discussions about supporting children who are struggling with mental health challenges.
