Social Media Trends for 2023

Dec 15, 2022

Give your social media marketing a boost by watching our Social Media Trends for 2023 event above. We predicted the biggest new features, algorithm changes, and content ideas for the year ahead.

It’s essential to stay on top of the latest social media marketing trends to stay relevant, ensure you are being seen, and get the best return for your time and budget.

Here’s a quick summary of the most important trends:

1. Let’s Talk Twitter

Brands are reassessing their relationship with Twitter. The new £8/month Twitter Blue product has launched and all eyes are on the blue bird. Some big names have left the platform already (Elton John) and Mastodon and Hive are seeing growth. 2023 will reveal whether Musk can turn Twitter into a profitable super app.

2. Trending on TikTok

TikTok has seen another huge year of growth. Video retention appears to be a huge signal to the algorithm, and longer videos are delivering better engagement (30 seconds minimum). Savvy brands will create or collaborate on their own original sounds in a bid to go viral. Who will be the Corn Kid of 2023?

3. It’s a Creator Economy

The social media platforms are battling it out to attract the world’s best creators – as they bring huge audiences. Creators will embrace Reels, TikTok, and Shorts to promote brands and generate revenue. Expect more discovery tools for marketers and easier ways to find and collaborate with creators within your niche.

4. B2B Resurgence

B2B content is getting more creative, slick, and innovative in 2023. No more lo-fi lockdown conversations. If you are a B2B marketer consider how to create value via video content across LinkedIn and YouTube in particular.

5. Digital Collectables

Meta is embracing NFTs with new ways to design, create and collect digital artwork, music, and images. Instagram is testing new digital collectable creations and trading right now in the USA – so expect a big launch in 2023.

6. Social Commerce

We saw TikTok and YouTube both integrate social commerce this year as the process of buying and seeling through social profiles becomes commonplace. Expect better UX and more trusted methods of payment, as well as an increase in live shopping events.

7. Social Media Tracking

Google Chrome is phasing out cookies over the next year, so it’s more important than ever to build 1st party data. Collecting email and app data are recommended as ways to be able to forge relationships with your customers in the future – and retarget them via advertising.

8. The Social Media Manager of 2023

The role of the social media manager is changing more quickly than ever before! TikTok video creation, storyboarding, and graphic design. These new skills are a world away from blogging. It can be hard to keep up – so the social media manager of 2023 must invest in ongoing training and development.
